Love is of course one of the strongest human emotions, and it touches all of us throughout our lives.
Whether it is the love of a parent for their child, or the love of a family pet, or the pain of love lost – any of us can point to a dozen moments or memories.
So let’s see how we (or our students) can unpack what love is all about in written form, from a wide variety of angles!
How To Use These Writing Prompts:
The prompts can be used in any number of ways.
Try picking one prompt at random for a week, and writing 500 words on the topic.
Or try giving the same prompt to a group of people and see how varied the resulting writing will be!
They can also of course be used as discussion starters, as once again there will be all sorts of different perspectives from a group of students on a single topic such as love.
The Prompts:
- Try to describe what knowing you’re loved by someone feels like.
- Imagine if you have a child of your own one day. Try to explain how much you love them, and what that feels like.
- Can a person truly love their pet as they would a family member? Why is that?
- What was one of your first memories of feeling loved?
- Do you think showing someone in your life that you love them can impact their health and wellbeing? Explain.
- Can you think of any animal species that demonstrate love for their family members? Give an example.
- Does the ability to feel love only ever result in happiness? Is it worth it?
- Does showing someone you love them always have to involve a big expensive gift? Why?
- How might love help people get through a difficult time in their life?
- Do you think your understanding of what love is changes as the years pass? Explain.
- Do you think someone who focuses more on love than on hate feels better about life? Why?
